The Unified Government became aware of an issue with setting the revenue neutral mill levy rate for the Kansas City Kansas Community College, Kaw Valley Drainage District, and Wolcott Drainage District. The rates are set by each taxing entity, not the Unified Government, but there was an error in setting the correct mill rate for these three taxing districts.
This was shared via Unified Government news including the corrective plan: Taxpayers in Wyandotte County to see marginal refund in 2024
All bills were adjusted for the second half payment which were due in May unless the entire property tax bill had been paid in the first payment. If that was the case, a refund was issued by check to the taxpayer. All accounts were corrected so that the taxing districts receive the correct distribution based on going revenue neutral.
